Now there is a battler! Coming back from the edge and he has the scars to prove it. It hasn’t been a bed of roses for that guy. Self-inflicted or not. but, the man seems at peace with himself now. I’m sorry he didn’t win the Oscar. The dude loves dogs too. Someone like that has to have a good heart!

Baseball-Reference.com (Pt. 1)

I am proud to say that I sponsor several former player pages on Baseball-Reference.com. One active player: Adrian Beltre of the Mariners. Included in the pages I sponsor are several Baseball Hall of Famers: George Sisler, Bill Dickey, Joe “Iron Man” McGinnity and my personal favorite Al “Bucketfoot” Simmons. We were both born on May 22nd, albiet a few years apart. I was so elated this year when his page became available for sponsorship. There should be another Hall of Famer born on May 22nd in the Hall of Fame: Tommy John. He missed it in his last year of eligibility with the baseball writers this year. Hopefully the 288 game winner, four-time All-Star, man who “Tommy John” revolutionary elbow surgery is named for will get in with the veterans committee. How can he possibly be kept out!!!!

Lefty and Tiger

Well, after slipping back, Phil Mickelson was able to come back and finish on top in the Northern Trust Open. His 35th Victory-Congratulations Lefty!

The great golf news for this week is that Tiger Woods is scheduled to return to play in the Accenture Match play Tournament in Arizona, starting on Wednesday! The PGA takes on a completely different look and feel when Tiger is there. He hasn’t played since he won the U.S. Open. Grimacing in pain down the stretch. His ACL needing repair, which took place soon afterwards, following months of rehab. Can’t wait to see him on the course next week. Then hopefully at the Masters April 9-12th.

I personally think that nothing surpasses Tiger making a run for a win on any Sunday in a Golf Tournament. There is something so magical about him walking up the fairway in quest of a victory. Which usually captures!

Griffey’s Presser, BP, Garret Anderson and Spring Training Parks (Pt. 1)

It was fun to see Junior back in Peoria. More then anything, to see him wearing Mariners colors again. He was his usual Junior self. But, also, you could see the maturity that he has acquired. How important his family is. Plus, more in the Leadership Department. At least that is how it seems to start with. Newsflash: Garret Anderson just signed with the Braves. So they got the “other option” for a lefthanded bat. I’m glad we got Junior over him for many reasons. Anderson, isn’t the funnest guy to deal with in the clubhouse. Griffey, has his moments where he likes to toy with you at times. But, then there is that smile, that grin, that “you know I’m just messin’ with ya” look. Ok, I’m a big fan of Junior. Certainly not alone in that category. Today he took cuts for the second day in a row. Still, seems to be getting acclimated. Outside of some Management and Administrative staff, Junior has virtually more time spent at the Peoria Sports Complex, that opened in 1994, then anyone else. He spent six springs there before departing for Florida to train with the Reds in 2000. Ironically, the Reds will be moving to the Valley of the Sun to join the Indians at their new complex next year in Goodyear. How cool is it to have the Dodgers and White Sox in Glendale? Dodgers moving to Arizona after 60+ years in Vero Beach, Florida and the White Sox moved up the road from Tucson where they shared Tucson Electric Park with the Diamondbacks. More on Spring Training Parks some other time. My visits to them go back to 1987. My how things have changed!

February 18, 2009, a great day in Seattle Sports History! Ken Griffey, Jr. signed a one-year contract to return to the Seattle Mariners. Thanks to Hall of Famer Willie Mays (and Harold Reynolds) for convincing Junior of the importance of his Legacy in Seattle.

Since this is my first blog posting: Allow me to introduce myself: I am Mark Aucutt, sports anchor for KOMO 1000 Newsradio in Seattle, Washington. Obviously, I’m an avid sports fan, with a few opinions on business and politics too. All of those topics will be covered on this blog at some point in the future!

What better way for me to start this blog, then with the return of Seattle sports icon: Ken Griffey, Jr.
